Been going to savage gulf for a few years now and even though you have to pay to camp now it's still one of my favorites
Great place for a day hike! Trails are well maintained and the views are breathtaking! Plenty of exploring to do at the end of the Great Stone Door trail, and the Laurel Loop Trail is short and steep with a nice waterfall.
Stone Door State Park is a jewel of a wilderness park without the cabins or food you nought get at some parks, but with roaring water falls and astounding cliff views. You may take a short hike on a paved trail or even hike to the bottom of the valley. It's beautiful that I go several times every year. All where the swimmin' holes are, too.
I enjoy the drive from Interstate highway I-24 to Hwy 50 to 56 and Stone Door Ranger Station. Within the park there are more than 20 miles of trails that I have hiked most all A lot of different levels of experience needed to hike here but very rewarding. You will find yourself going often once you first go!!!
The Stone Door Ranger Station has a kind and friendly staff. They are always willing to help and find good hiking trails. The bathrooms are nice and clean. There are other trails here besides Greeter Falls and Great Stone Door. Don't forget to try out the other trails. They are also beautiful, stunning, and fun.
